Hi Guys,

I wondered if any of you could recommend a good guide book for the Via Francigena that is similar to John Brierley's book for the CF?

Thank You

There are two sets of guidebooks to the VF:

Cicerone Guides
The Via Francigena - Pilgrim Trail Canterbury to Rome - 1: Canterbury to the Great St Bernard Pass, Alison Raju, Cicerone, 2011, 256pp, ISBN: 978-1852844875, £14.35 GBP
The Via Francigena – Pilgrim Trail Canterbury to Rome – 2: The Great St Bernard Pass to Rome, Alison Raju, Cicerone Press, 2014, 342 pages, ISBN: 978-1-85284-607-7, £16.95 GBP

Lightfoot Guides
LightFoot Guide to the Via Francigena - Canterbury to Besancon, ISBN: 978-2917183250, £22.99 GBP
LightFoot Guide to the Via Francigena - Besancon to Vercelli, ISBN: 978-2917183267, £20.99 GBP
LightFoot Guide to the Via Francigena - Vercelli to Rome, ISBN: 978-2917183274, £24.99 GBP

The prices may have changed a little since I bought mine. The Lightfoot guides are more similar to Brierly than the Cicerone guides but are not the same. The include maps and more details than the Cicerone guides. The Cicerone guides fit in a trouser pocket and are more tightly edited buy with fewer pictures.

Thanks for your information - it helps a lot. I think I will go with the Lightfoot Guides - several other people recommended them as well.

Hi! If you have to watch the weight you carry (and have a smart phone or tablet), you can also order the guides as e-books. It isn't as satisfying as having the 'proper' book (imo) but it does save on weight.
Happy planning! :)
